Biography

Johann was born in Feb or Mar 1720. He was the son of Johannes Rümmelin, a shoemaker in Untertürkheim, and his wife Elisabeth^[1]. On 5 Jun 1742, he married Anna Margaretha Majer, daughter of the late Caspar Majer, baker and member of the judicial court ("Gerichtsverwandter")^[2]. There was one child from this marriage, Rosina Elisabetha Rümmelin, born 19 Feb 1743^[3]. His first wife died on 6 Apr 1744^[4].

In late 1744 Johann married Maria Catharina Gaßmann^[5]. The wedding date is not recorded, but banns were read on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd Sunday after Trinity Sunday, which corresponds to 25 Oct 1744, 1 Nov 1744 and 8 Nov 1744. There were eight children from this marriage:

1. Johann Friederich (born 8 Oct 1745^[6]);
2. Anna Maria (born 18 Aug 1746^[7], died 23 Mar 1753)^[10];
3. Johannes (born 1 Oct 1748^[8]);
4. Johann Jacob (born 26 Feb 1750^[9]);
5. Maria Dorothea (born 7 Jun 1753^[11], died 12 Jun 1753)^[12];
6. Elias Ludwig (born 15 Feb 1755^[13], died 6 Nov 1757^[14]);
7. Johann Gottlieb (born 14 Apr 1757^[15]);
8. Maria Magdalena (born 13 Nov 1759^[16], died 15 Nov 1759^[17]).

Catharina died on 25 Nov 1759^[18]. On 29 Apr 1760 Johann married again. His third wife was Maria Elisabetha Tübinger, daughter of the late Johann Georg Tübinger, a wine grower in Untertürkheim^[19]. Johann had five more children from this marriage:

1. Christian Heinrich (born 19 Feb 1761^[20], died 25 Jul 1761^[21]);
2. Christina Rosina (born 22 Jan 1762^[22]);
3. Johann David (born 9 Oct 1763^[23]);
4. Christian Heinrich (born 30 Jan 1766^[24], 4 Feb 1766^[25]);
5. Christina Margaretha (born 4 May 1767^[26], 13 Apr 1810)^[28].

Note

The death record of Elisabetha^[27] identifiers her as Johann's widow, so he must have died some time between 1767 and 1790. A death or burial record has not been located, however.
