Flora was born in 1847. She was the daughter of Homer Sackett and Flora Skiff. She passed away in 1933.
Flora Susannah Sackett was raised in Warren, Connecticut, among a tribe of Sacketts. Her beloved mother died when Flora was twelve years old, but she retained an attachment to Warren throughout her life. She returned to Warren for the birth of her third child, and her grandchildren remember visiting Lake Waramaug. Two of her brothers served in the Civil War and wrote letters home to her. She was deeply connected to the Congregational Church. She must have been concerned with community and individual well-being as indicated by the goals of her association with the Waterbury Women's Club and The Central Band of King's Daughters. In 1888 she and her daughter Annie helped to found the latter organization with the motto "Bear Ye One Another's Burdens." Flora was petite and soft spoken and ill with arthritis for many years. Her husband, dentist Isaac Newton Russell, died 31 years before her creating a straightened financial situation. Her home at 43 Hillside in Waterbury remained in the family for 59 years. After her death her live-in helper married Flora's son, Homer, who continued to live in the home until his death. Several lovely items from the home remain in the family.
