Thomas Sackville KB was born in Sussex, England.

Thomas was the son of John Sackville of Sedlescombe and Joan Downton.

Thomas married Ann Warnett on 27 June 1630 in Nonington, Kent, England.[2]


Thomas was engaged in the iron industry in the Weald of Sussex as can be seen from his will:[3]

[inter alia] 'I desire my executors and the survivors of them shall and may untill my heire shall attayne and come to the full age of One and Twenty yeares take and preserve the proffitts of all my landes tenements and hereditaments which I have either in possession or reservacon, and allso fell and digge carrie and dispose of all the underwoods and mynes from tyme to tyme growing uppon or in any my said landes during the said tyme, and may allsoe have the moiety of my Iron Worke stilled Breade ffurnace, and allso the moiety of the proffitts of Conster and Crowham fforges during the terme yett to come according to a Copartnershipp betweene Peter ffarden and my selfe, and may allso sell and sell or buy the said landes and premisses and take and receive the said rents yssues and proffitts thereof, and convert the said underwoods into coales and take and have all thinges necessarie for the coaling thereof untill my said heire shall come to and attaine the said age of One and Twenty yeares. And whereas there is a Copartnership between me and Peter ffarnden gent for divers yeares yet to come touching the using of the foremenconed Iron Workes betwixt us My will and meaning is that the said workes shallbe kept forwards between the said Peter ffarnden and my said Executors during the Copartnershipp, according to the Copartnership which is nowe between us, and that the benefitt monyes or other proffitt arising out of, or by reason of the said use of the said Iron Workes, might be imployed and converted to the raysing of the said severall portions by me formerlie devised to my said younger sonnes daughter and daughters.'[4]

Thomas was buried 14 May 1639 at Sedlescombe, Sussex[5][6]

I have been unable to find a baptism record but Thomas is mentioned in a post nuptial agreement as being the first son: John Downton of Sedlescombe, gent and his wife Mary with John Sackville of Sedlescombe, esq and wife Joan (JD's only daughter and heir)

This possibly relates to his grant of arms[8]

Sir died in about 1639 and was buried on 14 May 1639 in Sedlescombe, Sussex, England.[9]
