Mary Shard was baptized St. Nicholas Cole Abbey, London, England, 25 February 1609/10, daughter of Humphrey Shard, a clothworker,[1] and Margery _____.[2]
Mary married (1), St. Nicholas Cole Abbey, 6 February 1630/1, John Gove.[3][4]
Immigration
In 1642, John Gove was loaned £3 to help transport his two children to New England.[5]
In his 1994 article, after referencing various English records, Richard Wheeler theorized that John Gove probably brought the two sons, Edward and John Gove, to New England in 1642, with wife and daughter remaining at London. Further, Wheeler suggests that John Gove returned to London alone, likely twice--1643 and 1646--to acquire brass for his trading operations, with the boys staying "in the care of friends at Charlestown, [perhaps] with the Mousalls." Finally that John Gove brought his wife and the other children to New England in 1647.[6][7]
At New England
John Gove's will, dated 22 : 11 : 1647 [22 January 1647/8],[8] was proved 13 April 1648.[9] He mentions daughter Mary and "my two sonnes, John and Edward."
The inventory of John Gove's estate was taken 25 : 11 : 1647 [25 January 1647/8].[10]
Mary (Shard) (Gove) Mansfield, the "Old widow Mansfield," died at Hampton, 4 March 1681/2.[12]

John Gove, baptized St. Botolph's, London, 25 March 1631/2, died 24 December 1704; married (1) Mary Aspinwall, married (2) Mary Woodhead, married (3) Elizabeth (Sanders) (Batson) Walden.[14]
Humphrey Gove, baptized St. Nicholas Cole Abbey, London, 30 March 1633/4; buried St. Paul's Churchyard, 27 November 1634.[15][16]
Mary Gove, baptized St. Nicholas Cole Abbey, London, 19 September 1641.[18]
Rachel Gove, baptized St, Botoloph's Without Aldgate, 3 November 1644; no further record.

John Mansfield and his wife, Mary (Shard) Gove, were the parents of,
John Mansfield (twin), born early 1649;[19] married Windsor 13 December 1683, Sarah (Pinney) Phelps, daughter of Humphrey Pinney and widow of William Phelps.[20]
Elizabeth Mansfield (twin), born early 1649; living 20 December 1656, but there the record ends.[21]
Research Notes
Double dating and the IGI. 'An extracted record of her baptism appears as a FamilySearch IGI extracted record, giving the date as 25 February 1609;[22] the date is given as 25 February 1609/10 in Sibyl Noyes, Charles T. Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire, in 5 parts, paginated consecutively, (3) 278-79; digital images, FamilySearch Books. An extracted record of her marriage appears as a FamilySearch IGI extracted record, giving the date as 6 February 1630.[23] the date is given as 6 February 1630/1 in Sibyl Noyes, Charles T. Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire, in 5 parts, paginated consecutively, (3) 278-79; digital images, FamilySearch Books.
Not Mary Sale. A prior version of this profile called her "Mary Sale," born Chesham, Bucks, England, in 1601, but the Mary, who died Hampton 4 March 1680/81 and was the mother of Edward^2 Gove, is identified as Mary Shard in, among others, Robert Charles Anderson, The Great Migration, Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635, Volume V, M-P, 15 (John Mansfield). Mary Shard married (2) John Mansfield.
Not shown mother of Enoch Gove. A prior version of this profile reported she was the mother of Enoch Gove, born 1708.
Not shown as daughter of Elizabeth Gifford. A prior version of this profile reported her mother was Elizabeth Gifford (Gifford-338), without further reference. Mary's mother's identity was updated to Margery ______ in 2021, citing a reported article by Richard S. Wheeler, "A Note on the Antecedents of John and Mary (Shard) Gove, of London and Charlestown," published in New Hampshire Genealogical Record.
Children Rachel and Benjamin Gove? A prior version of this profile reported Rachel Gove and Benjamin Gove as the children of John Gove and Mary Shard. The IGI (database only) reports baptisms of both Rachel[24] and Benjamin[25] to "John Gove" and wife "Marie" at Saint Botolph without Aldgate, London, England. Nothing further is given for those so baptized. Warden account, St. Nicholas Cole Abbey, 1642, reports he was loaned £3 to help transport "his two children" to New England.[26] In his 1647 will, John^1 Gove mentions only his daughter Mary and "my two sonnes, John and Edward."[27] These children, Rachel and Benjamin, remain linked to the profile of Mary (Shard) (Gove) Mansfield.

Suspect the husband's name "Malename" is otherwise "Male Name," and should be changed to "unknown." In the alternative, was this a real person, or is it just a placeholder for a Gove married to "Mary Sales."
I have adopted the orphaned profile of "Mary Sales (-1656)"; assuming I am unable to confirm her identity, then she too may be not a real person. --Gene
Edited to add: I suspect "Mary Sales" is an errant entry for "Mary Sale," daughter of Edward Sale (1563-1620), mistakenly called the wife (not mother) of John Gove in The Gove Book.
Unless there are objections, I intend to sever her as the mother of John Gove and as the wife of "Male Name" Gove. This Mary Sales (-1656) should then probably be merged away, into John Gove's known wife, Mary (Shard) Mansfield (1604-abt.1681).
Why does the birth data field report her birth 21 Oct 1604 in St. Giles, Cripplegate, London, Middlesex, England, when the narrative reports February 25, 1610, in London, London, England,
