Anna Maria Salemi is the daughter of Giuseppe Salemi and Nicolena Nicolosi. She is born sometime after 1817, when an older sister who is also named Anna Maria dies at age three.
Anna Maria is called Donna Marianna in other records, including in her marriage and in the record of her death.
"Marianna" marries Maestro Rosario Canali, a widower, on 7 January 1830. Her father is living, and her mother has died by this time.
Marianna and Rosario have at least four children: Giuseppe (1830), Nicolena (1832), Paola (1834), and Emmanuele (1836).
Giuseppe is born and baptized 26 November 1830, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Don Benedetto and Donna Francesca Milone, a married couple.
In July 1831, Marianna and her father stand as godparents to Apollonia Cascio. This record calls Marianna unmarried.[1]
Nicolena is born and baptized on 6 June 1832. Her godparents are Don Vincenzo Salemi and Donna Carmela Nicolosi, who are not married.
In 1834 Maestro Rosario, 38 (b. 1796) and Maria Anna, 26, (b. 1808), their children Giuseppe, 4 (b. 1830), and Nicolena, 2, and servant Maria Anna, 16 (b. 1818), live near the hospital.
Paola is born and baptized on 27 August 1834, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Don Leandro and Donna Maria Oliva Catinella, a married couple.
Emmanuele is born and baptized on 8 December 1836. His godparents are Don Giuseppe and Antonina Salemi, father and daughter.
Paola marries Luciano Carmelo Bentivegna on 18 November 1850. By this time, Rosario has died.
Nicolena marries Maestro Antonino Paparcuri on 23 February 1852.
Giuseppe marries Angela Saporito, a widow, on 13 March 1859.
Paola and Luciano have at least eight children, of which Marianna stands as godmother to at least three. Their last child dies in February 1868, the same month that Paola dies, age 34.
Donna Marianna dies, reportedly at age 66 (b. 1816) on 27 June 1882. This is the only record to style her donna.
Emmanuele dies at age 46 (b. 1836) on 5 August 1882. He is unmarried. Most people who the Catholic Church reports dying in Corleone at this time, are buried in the Saint Mary Magdalena Cemetery. However, Emmanuele refuses the sacrament repeatedly and dies separated from the Church. His burial is in a civilian cemetery in a private location.
Nicolena dies at age 62 (b. 6 Jun 1832) on 2 May 1894, the widow of Antonino.
