1. ↑ Source: #S118 Page: Volume 1, page 319 Data: Text: THOMAS SAYLES CONT CONT Thomas David Sayles, b. 7-4-1868 d. 9-19-1930, son of James Thomas Sayles and Santefe Coleman Sayles, moved to Carroll County from NC in the mid to late 1800?s. He met and m. Jennie Belle Warren, b. 9-1-1875 d. 6-21-1943, daughter of Martin Warren and Amanda Queen Warren, relocated from Clifton, Tn to Carroll County in the 1800?s. CONT Thomas David was a farmer and cattle rancher and settled in the 19th District between Jarrell Switch and Big Buck where he and Jennie Belle reared eleven children: Agnes Odell b. 11-21-1891, Guy b. 7-31-1894, Lillian Alton b. 2-23-1986, Iral Lee b. 12-7-1897, Eunice b. 1-14-1900, Howard b. 8-8-1902, Lois b. 11-5-1904, James Paul b. 12-26-1906, Mary Florence b. 4-8-1910, Mattie Belle b. 11-26-1912, and Lonnie Woodrow b. 4-9-1917. CONT Lois remembered a ?scarecrow? story that happened in the early 1920?s. The family had been on an outing to a neighbors and upon returning home late in the evening Lois saw what she believed to be a person sitting at their front door. Lois ran yelling down the front porch, skipping all the stairs as she ran to the store house. Her father, Thomas, pulled his knife out and approached the figure carefully only to discover a scarecrow had been dressed with a hat and men?s clothing. A family friend had placed the scarecrow on the porch as a joke for the Sayles family. CONT Macie Erin, daughter of Lois, recalls experiencing the thrill of open-cockpit flying in a World War I biplane in 1942. The barnstormers would land in the open fields near the Jarrell Switch community and charged one dollar per ride. Macie would fetch gasoline for the pilot in exchange for a free ride in the biplane.
