His first name in The Shurtleff and Lawton Families: Genealogy and History, is given as "John", so it is not "Thomas".
Transactions of the Shropshire Archaeological and Natural History Society. Part I. Vol. VII. (1883) on page 33 disproves his parentage. John Salisbuye is not the son of George Salisbury and Mary Grosvenor because it says, "John Salisbury of Erbistock, who died without issue in 1628, and whose wife was Margaret, daughter of Richard Leighton of Wattlesburgh, Co. Salop." It is elucidating that John Salisbury of Erbistock who married Margaret Leighton and died without issue in 1628 and John Salisbuye of Salford who married Margaret Crowley in 1611 are different separate men at different locations and different times.
Now Geroge Salisbury and Mary Grosvenor are detached from this profile of John Salisbuye. Currently, his parentage remains unknown.
Parentage Questionable - One View
Since 1994, Lawton and William Shurtlett, the authors of The Shurtlett and Lawton Families, have claimed that Elizabeth Salisbury's parents were John Salisbuye and Margaret Crowley, so Find A Grave: Memorial #125563169 for Elizabeth (Salisbury) Lawton now supports the claim that John Salisbury and Margaret Crowley were her parents.
John Salisbuye and Margaret Crowley are questioned.
"You mentioned on Elizabeth's page that her parents are often listed as Margaret Crowley and John Salisbury, but you can't find any evidence for that. I wanted to share with you how that assumption was started. Elizabeth Salisbury was married in 1635 in Cranfield Parish. Of course, that would suggest that she was likely born in Cranfield or a neighboring parish, so researchers have searched Cranfield and the nearby parishes for a birth record for Elizabeth. No birth record has ever been found. In fact there are NO records for any Salisburys in Cranfield and the neighboring parishes other than Elizabeth's marriage record in Cranfield AND a marriage record in Salford Parish (adjoining Cranfield) for a Margaret Crowley and John Salisbury dated 1611. It was this marriage record that caused descendants to think that Margaret Crowley and John Salisbury were likely parents for Elizabeth Salisbury, but no further evidence has ever been discovered to link them as a family. So... that parentage should only be taken as a hint, and never listed as fact."

Records also show John Salisbury married Margaret Crowley in Salford, Bedfordshire about 4 miles from Cranfield, Bedfordshire. Although no records show they had a daughter named Elizabeth, it is possible due to their proximity to Cranfield.[1]
