Mehitable was born 1740 (cemetery inscription) and died 28 Feb 1825 at Eden, Hancock, Maine
Research Notes
FindAGrave has her maiden name as Hawkins
Her birth place was reportedly Sackville, there were two in the Atlantic provinces, one in Nova Scotia and one in New Brunswick
It is very unlikely that she was born in Sackville as the town didn't exist at the time and the land was occupied by Acadians. The only English part of Nova Scotia was in Annapolis and some military outposts. Note that New Brunswick was part of Nova Scotia until 1784 and Sackville, Cumberland, Nova Scotia and Sackville, Westmorland, New Brunswick are the same location. There was a Fort Sackville near Halifax but neither it nor Halifax existed in 1740. The name lives on as Lower Sackville today. This family may have lived in Sackville, Cumberland, Nova Scotia between the period 1763 to 1776 but there is no record of that. Her in-laws did live there over that period, and that may have caused the confusion. Ward-21154 00:17, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

It is highly unkikely that this person was born in Sackville in 1740. The area was still a French territory and there were very few English surnames in the region during that era. Sackville, New Brunswick was not settled by people of English descent until about 1760. Suggest she may be from Massachusetts Bay Colony.
