Biography

Samuel was born about 1823. He was the eldest son of Nathaniel Salsbury and Rachel Goodrich, and was named as executor of his father's will.[1]

Like his father, he was a Methodist Episcopal minister. He was admitted to the Methodist Episcopal Church Black River Conference in 1850.[2]

In 1850 he was a Methodist Episcopal minister living in the town of Cicero, Onondaga County, New York.[3] His household included Samuel Salsbury and Catherine Salsbury, both age 28 both born in New York.

In 1855 he was a minister living in the town of Wilna, Jefferson County, New York.[4] His household included Samuel Salsbury age 33 born in Oneida County and his wife Catherine A Salsbury age 33 born in Dutchess County.

In 1860 he was a Methodist Episcopal Minister living in the town of Ira, Cayuga County, New York.[5] His household included Samuel Salsberry age 36 born in New York, Catharine Salsberry age 35 born in New York, Amelia Sterns, a domestic, age 21 born in New York, and Susan Stewert age 77 born in New York.

In 1865 he was a Methodist Clergyman living in West Turin, Lewis County, New York.[6] The household included Samuel Salsbury age 42 born in Onondaga County, his wife Catherine M Salsbury age 41 born in Dutchess County, his sister-in-law Maryetta H Salsbury age 36 born in Onondaga County, his nephew George G Salsbury age 11 born in Onondaga County, and his niece Mary E Salsbury age 10 born in Onondaga County.

In 1870 he was a Methodist Clergyman living in the town of Steuben, Oneida County, New York.[7] His household included Samuel Salisbury age 47 born in New York and Catherine Salisbury age 46, born in New York.

In 1875 he was a Methodist Episcopal Minister living in the town of Brookfield, Madison County, New York.[8] The household included Samuel Salsbury age 52 no place of birth listed, his wife Katherine Salsbury age 48 born in Dutchess County, boarder Harriet Babcock age 47 born in Oneida County and her son Oliver Wirt Babcock age 5 born in Madison County.

He applied for the probate of his father's will 22 May 1877.[1]

In 1880 he was a Methodist Episcopal Minister living in the town of Stark in Herkimer County, New York.[9] The household included Samuel Salsbury age 55 and his wife Catharine A Salsbury age 53, both born in New York.

He died 14 Dec 1887 in Constantia, Oswego County, New York from bronchial and heart difficulty. Born in Onondaga County, he was age 65 and had been in the Methodist Episcopal ministry for over thirty years. He was survived by his wife, his brother Morris Salsbury of Rome, New York, brother Emory Salsbury of Brooklyn, and sister Mrs. H.H. Brower of Brooklyn.[10]

The Rev Samuel Salisbury is buried in Pulaski Village Cemetery, Pulaski, Oswego County, New York.[11] Catherine Salisbury who died 28 Apr 1881 at age 58 is buried in the same plot.

Research Notes

his sister in law may be the Marietta Salsbury named in the the probate for Maria Bond and her son George G Salsbury may also be named.
