The parents of Thomas Salter actually had four sons named Thomas, baptized in 1773, 1774, 1777 and 1783. Presumably the first three died very young. The notes of James Devitt corroborate this. However, those notes are ambiguous as to which one survived to adulthood and carried on the family name.
