On 31 Dec 2018 at 7:14 PM EST Happy New Years to all! Good bye to 2018, it's been a rough year! I would like to be able to get myself focused on actually entering my husbands and my family. I would like to keep sourcing, Saturday Sourcing Sprints, and the US Presidents Project.

For sourcing I like to pick a surname that I have/share in my family or my husbands family. Once in a while I will actually run into family. Some times a great story unfolds. I'll never forget the "West" family that took me on a true American Wild, Wild, West story. And there are those days where I find a family so full of duplicates and errors. Just finished one today, the "Kirk" family. It needed merges, there were a lot of relationships where the mother was the mother and the grandmother, wrong or misspelled last names, etc.

For the US Presidents project I am working on Chester Arthur and Rutherford Hayes. Usually I spend Monday to Friday on my family. Saturdays on sourcing and Sundays on US Presidents.

As a kind of tribute to 2018, our City lost 2 Firefighters in the Line of Duty. It was the first loss of life in the City Fire and Rescue department in 50+ years. I would like to start or expand the Categories to "Professional or Career" and "Volunteer" Firefighter followed by City/Township/Borough, followed by county, followed by state, and then country.

And with that I need to stop and not let myself get overwhelmed. There is so much I still need to learn here on Wikitree even after belonging for a year.

On 16 Dec 2017 at 17:34 GMT I joined Wikitree! One year anniversary on Wikitree, I'm only a day late in celebrating! 17 Dec 2018

Yesterday I started seeing which Presidents of the United States I might be related to. Below I've listed the presidents and my common ancestor link if we are related. [4]

Biographies [6]

I am a member of Ancestry.com [7]

Then there is "DNA"! [8]

Does anyone else have a problem with getting distracted on Wikitree? I find myself working on entering a batch of my family and surprise a cousin contacts me asking for help. I love meeting and helping my cousins! So I am off on another track. Then I see something interesting in my G2G feed and switch gears again. Then Saturday is the sourcing sprint and I really want to contribute to the Wikitree community!

The challenge I'm giving myself is to be able to come back to my profile page and use categories and links and all the do da's bells and whistles to my biography. It may not be for quite a while or might be in a couple of months. Once I turn on my computer and start working on Wikitree I never know where I'll end up for the day!

  2. I have virtually been on Wikitree every day since I joined! Genealogy has become some what of an obsession with me. I also am loving the new history lessons as an added bonus to my family tree. So far I have joined and participated in the Sourcers Challenge and the Saturday Sourcing Sprints. I've even found my own family while doing the challenges. I have joined the Italian_Roots and German_Roots as that is most of my DNA. My paternal side is virtually 100% Italian and my maternal side is German, English, and other western European roots.
  3. Just recently I disovered the "Category" tags for everything from occuaptions to military. So I am excited to update many profiles for those that served in virtually every war the United States was ever involved in. My husbands side of the family is very involved in the occupation of being "Firefighters". My husband, his three brothers and his father were all "Firefighters" for our city and at one point all five were active. God bless my mother-in-law for dealing with knowing every call and every day as they headed off to work that they may never come home. That means a lot to me as this past March we lost two "Firefighters" in the line of duty. It was the first loss of life since the 1970's. So I have been trying to come up with some sort of project to honor our 1st responders past, present and especially those lost in the line of duty. The two we lost in March were the 12th and 13th line of duty deaths in the history of the cities "Fire Department". I still need to keep studing and understanding how to use the "Catergory" tags!

So John and Arthur are my great uncles and Henry is my 11th great grandfather

    34 Dwight D. Eisenhower - not related

    39. 39th Lyndon Johnson 11th cousins 2x's removed
    43. 43rd George w Bush 12th cousins 1x removed
  5. Around the same time I joined Wikitree I had also hired a professional genealogist to verify my connection to the the Mayflower, verify my families connection with William Penn as he signed the will of John Scarborough, and help find my paternal Italian_Roots back a couple of generations in Italy. Sadly I let family who did not believe in my work persuade me to hire someone. I spent a small fortune and now that I've been on Wikitree through the relationship finder I can enter John Howland of the Mayflower and in seconds it reveals he is my 12x's great uncle and his brother Henry Howland is my 11x's great grandfather.
  6. I would love to do biographies on Wikitree however my writing skills and story telling are pretty bad! I blame it on missing so many English classes from moving around so much and going to so many different schools. I remember my 1st trimester in college one of my classes was a writing class and for the first time in my life I got a D. I was always driven to be a straight A student and the D to this day bugs me!
  7. Between my husband's family and mine I have over 12,000 people to enter. I will not do a download and then upload because when I first started on Ancestry and did not understand how it worked the first few years, so many profiles have so much work needed to clean them up. When I do sourcing I find the largest number of "unsourced profiles" come from family trees that have been uploaded to Wikitree.
  8. I've done "Family Tree DNA mtDNA Full Sequence" and "Ancestry DNA". I uploaded Ancestry DNA to GEDmatch ID A593513 and my Haplogroup is U5a2a1d. Unfortunately I have not been able to wrap my head around or make any sense of DNA. I am trying to get either my son and/or my brother to get tested so I get that Y-Chromosone.
  9. As a child moved over 30+ times in my life and went to 8 different schools in 11 years
Played volleyball and basketball from middle school thru college
Attended York Catholic H.S. and graduated a year early from Contoocook Valley H.S.

My dream of getting to see Cologne, Germany sitting outside at a café enjoying being there and the Rhine River. Also the amazing opportunity to climb the 500 spiral staircase in the 3,000 year old Cologne Cathedral of St. Peter. Little did I know that day how many of my ancestors came from close surrounding areas!
23 Sep 2006 married Gregory Halpin

2007 Became a rescue dog owner. Ruby was our 1st adoption.
2011 My son married my wonderful daughter-in-law
2014 Adopt Maddie, our 2nd rescue dog.
2015 Became a grandmother of one precious grandson
2017 Became a grandmother of one angelic granddaughter.
Survivor of incest and rape. Why announce it to the world? To help get over the shame.
I have lived with Bi-polar II, PTSD, and agoraphobia my entire adult life.
    Lucky to still be ALIVE!
I have always been interested in where my family was from. From doing projects for school to buying Family Tree parchment paper to record my ancestors on. Joined Ancestry.com in 2011 and in late 2017 found WikiTree! I am totally in love with WikiTree and in this world we are all one big family!

There are 2 women, A Wagman and B Ryer, in my family that did genealogy by making the trips to our local library, Historical Society, churches, and wherever else they could go to get details and build our family tree. My husband's maternal aunt, A Lerew, did the same thing as the 2 women in my family. And to this day they still find things and pass them along to everyone they can. And then there is one of my maternal aunts, B Duffey, that has helped get copies of pictures from as far back as possible. On her journey she knocked down a major brick wall and discovered where the 1st ancestors for one branch of the family went to church and got married and baptized. And she was able to find a few records that she took pictures of with her phone. Sadly B. Ryer entered eternal peace after dealing with brain cancer.

Hi Cousin,

Just wanted so share a fascinating hidden feature on WikiTree. You can get a report for all your known ancestors within 2,000 years by typing this in your URL: http://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTWebAncestors/errors.htm?WikiTreeID=Cruz-788 (Just replace Cruz-788 with your WIkiTree ID)

I found a 69th generation ancestor. He is listed as King Prasutagus of the Iceni, born 0010 in Icenia, Britannia. (WikiId: Iceni-3). Iceni were a British Celtic tribe of eastern Britian during the Iron Age and early Roman Era. His history offers a fascinating story about how his wife, Boudici, after her husbands death about 50 A.D., led an uprising against the occupying Roman Empire, and gave the Roman's such hell that she later became a British folk hero.

There are many others to explore too!
