Interment Rice-Sammons Cemetery, Blue River, KY. Born March 27, 1956 Died October 13, 2009 Chester "Riverrat" Sammons, age 53 of Whittensville, Ky. husband of Barbara Ann Slone Sammons, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in Kings Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Ky. He was born March 27, 1956 in Prestonsburg, Ky., a son of the late Lee Sammons and Rhoda Elliott Sammons. Mr. Sammons was a member of the Whitaker Freewill Baptist Church, East Point, KY., and the United Mine Workers Association and a Coal Miner.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one son Chester E. (Angel) Sammons, Jr., one daughter, Melody Lynn (Benjamin) Welch, Van Lear, Ky four brothers, Elbert Sammons of Warsaw, IN., Eddie Sammons and Columbus Sammons, both of Prestonsburg, Ky., Johnny Whitt of South Whitley, IN., five sisters, Beatrice Branham of Allen, Ky., Jennie Anne Owens and Grace Thornsbury both of Fostoria, OH., Ottie Rice of Prestonsburg, Ky., Joyce Tussey of David, Ky., and Mary Margaret Syck of Palmgra, WI., five grandchildren: Joseph Aaron Welch, Benjamin Allen Welch, Trenton Lee Trusty, Matthew Isiah Welch and Madison LaShay Sammons.

He was preceded in death by his parents two brothers, Robert Sammons and Cecil Whitt, two sisters Arlene Walls and Jo Annne Holbrook, two grandchildren, Jordan Allen Welch and Benjamin Scott Welch.

Funeral Services for Chester "Riverrat" Sammons will be conducted Saturday October 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Hubert Slone and Bobby Joe Spencer officiating.Burial will follow in the Rice-Sammons Cemetery, Blue River, KY.
