Ernest was born on 30 June 1872 at Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia. He was the son of Alfred Horatio Sampson and Harriet Hannah Buller (Hutchison) Hutchinson.^[1]

When Ernest was about 24 when he married Annie Louisa Favell in about 1897 in Orange, New South Wales, Australia.^[2]

Ernest died at the age of 70 on 3 December 1942 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.^{[3][4] [5] [6]}

Ernest was buried after 3 December 1942 in CofE, Orange Cemetary, New South Wales, Australia.
