Louisa was born about 1877 in Nebraska. (1920 census) She was the daughter of Peter Sampson and Elizabeth LaMere. The famous Angel De Cora and her sister Julia, were half-sisters of Louisa and lived with the Sampsons when her mother married Pete. (1886, 1889 censuses)
Name
The 1898 census gives her Hocąk name as E-nae-kee-mone-win-kaw, which is for Inekimąnįwįga, "(She) Walks Alone", which is from īnéki, "alone"; mąnį, "to walk, she walks"; -wį-, a feminine gender infix; -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. This is likely a Bear Clan name, as bears are typically asocial.
Her middle initial "F" is clearly entered in the 1895 census.
Marriages and Children
When Louisa was only 16, she had an affair with someone whose surname is variously rendered as "Rakeman", "Rikeman", or "Rokeman". The most likely candidate is Peter Rockman who resided in Wisconsin. Her child with him is:
