He was recorded in his parent's household in Knole, Long Sutton in the 1861 Census.[2]
Joseph was still living in his father's household in 1871, described as a farmer's son.[3]
He was in the same situation in 1881, still single, and his profession given as agricultural labourer.[4]
Cannot locate in 1891 and 1901 Censuses, but he reappears in 1911 in Greenwich with a wife whose name has been badly transcribed.
His profession was given as stoker in 1911, so he may have worked on steamships which is why he was not captured in 1891 and 1901.[5]
No marriage record has been located. The 1911 Census noted that no children had been born to either Joseph or his wife in the present marriage.
