Biography

Laura and Joseph married April 8, 1930.[1] She graduated from high school after she got married. She and her husband shared a middle name "Martin." For her it was her mother's maiden name.

She "smoked A LOT but was an original hippy, or today she would have been one of the 'eat local' people". She loved to garden, probably out of necessity. She worked at the mill. She made oatmeal every morning and fresh bread every couple days. Granddaughter Jean has her cast iron skillet and every time she heats it up, it smells like her house. She bought bricks of ice cream, would open them up, and cut slices then pour Hershey's syrup on it. She let her grandchildren roast marshmallows inside in the fireplace (in July.) [2]

References list both Birchwood and Loomis. Birchwood, WI was first called Loomis after Wilbur Loomis, first storekeeper and early resident. In 1912 the name changed due to a political argument. [3]
