Henry was born in 1875 in Gravesend Kent.[1]
He was the son of Isaac Samuels and Mary Warn and Isaac's eldest son. His second name Morris was for his paternal grandfather Morris Samuels
In the 1881 census, Henry is six years old, living with his parents and siblings at Windmill Hill, probably the Belle Vue Hotel which his mother ran.

In the 1891 census Henry is 16 yrs old and listed as a sailor. [3]
By 1901 Henry is now a house painter which trade he carried on after his marriage 2 years later.[4]
