Esther was born to Peter and Aphia Shaw Sanborn at Hampton Falls, New Hampshire in 1720.[1] She married Joshua Gilman when she was almost 17[2] and they had at least nine children together.[3]

Joshua Gilman, born Feb 3, 1716 in Exeter, New Hampshire, died January 7, 1792 in Gilmanton, Strafford, New Hampshire, and his wife Esther Sanborn, born 1720, married are honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution for service: SIGNER OF ASSOCIATION TEST, 1776.[4]
