George was born and christened on the 5th January 1840 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland the son of George Sandeman and Elizabeth (Hill) Sandeman.[1]
1841 Census on the 6th June 1841 George was living at Sailors Acres, Dundee, Forfarshire, Scotland with his parents George and Elizabeth, and his brother David.[2]
1851 Census on the 30th March 1851 George was living in South Tay Street, Forfar, Forfarshire, Scotland with his parents George and Elizabeth, and his siblings David, Patrick, John and Gregory.[3]
1861 Census on the 7th April 1861 George an accounts clerk, was living in King Street, Dundee, Forfarshire, Scotland with his parents George and Elizabeth, and his siblings Patrick, Robert and John.[4]
George married Jemima Leighton in Islington, Middlesex in 1864.[5]
The newspaper announcement read: Sandeman-Leighton At Canonbury, Islington on 14th Inst., Mr George B. Sandeman to Jemima, third daughter of Charles Leighton Esq., of Kent and Hope Wharfs, Dalston, London.[6]
Their marriage is listed on London Sandemanian Marriages and other links between church members. There were about 70 marriages between the families of the London Sandemanian's of which this was one.
In 1864 a court case was held concerning a fraud alleged against Mr. Dymes an East India merchant in Mincing Lane, London. George Baxter Sandeman was book keeper and cashier to Mr. Dymes.[7]
1871 Census on the 2nd April 1871 George a commercial clerk, was living at 1 Queens Downs Road, Hackney, Middlesex with his wife Jemima and their children George, Elizabeth, Gertrude and Helen.[8]
In 1876 George was admitted to act as a broker within the City of London, address given as 4 Bishopsgate Street, London.[9]
George, of Market Buildings, Mincing Lane, City of London, and 2 Rayleigh Terrace, Upton Park, Essex, died aged 40 on the 12th August 1880 at 2 Rayleigh Terrace, Upton Park, Essex.[10][11]
George's obituary was published in the Dundee Courier and Daily Argus on the 16th August 1880.[12]
Administration of George's estate, under £600, was proved at the Principal Registry on the 25th October 1880 and passed to Jemima (Leighton) Sandeman his widow.[13]
