Mary Ann Sanders was born on 29 December 1817 at Tormohen, Devon, England.
Mary migrated to South Australia in 1839 on the Recovery. [1]
Mary married widower David Teakle (1810-1895) at Holy Trinity Church in Adelaide on 26 October 1840. [2]
The couple had ten children:
Mary died two weeks after her husband, on 27 September 1895 at Mount Barker. [3]
In 1936, during the centenary year of the founding of the Colony of South Australia, Mount Barker opened the Pioneer Women's Memorial Avenue which was lined by trees with the names of pioneer women on plaques, including Mary. [4]
