Biography

Emma was born in 1846. She passed away in 1920.

  • Mrs Emma Rebecca Alston died at her home near Hagood in this

county Tuesday night as a result of a hip fracture she had sustained the Friday before. She had been in failing health for the past year and her constitution was not sufficiently robust to recover from this fall she had when entering the Ellerbe's home to pay a call. Mrs Alston had spent all the 75 years of her life in the old Sanders homestead, left her by her father, the late William Sanders. Her husband, Dr John Ashe Alston, died some 35 years ago.

Mrs Alston is survived by her only child, Algernon Alston, who with his family lived with her, and one sister, Mrs George Graham, of Sumter. Her brother-in-law, Dr Rowland Alston, of Charleston, attended the funeral which was held at the Shiloh burying ground at the Church of the Ascension at Hagood.
