Biography

OBITUARY: Our precious mother, Alice Dora Mae Johnson went home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 9, 2016.

Alice was born in Westhoff, Texas, on Aug. 25, 1919, to Frank and Hertha Sanders. She was blessed to be one of ten children; six brothers and three sisters. She grew up in Vernon and Levelland, moving to Lubbock in her later teens. Alice loved her Lord and her family dearly and devoted her life to taking care of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anyone who met her soon fell in love with her sweet and gentle spirit. She had a kind and generous heart, always willing to share with others in need. Alice enjoyed watching sports games on television, especially Red Raider Football.

Alice married Birtlyn Ross on July 7, 1940. Birtlyn was killed in action in WWII in 1945. Alice married Floyd Johnson on March 7, 1949. Floyd passed away in 1986.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; her beloved sons-in-law, Ken Kucauskas, Ron Brown, and Don Cunningham; beloved grandson, Kyle Kucauskas Averitte, and little Samantha Sam, her precious Jack Russell Terrier.

Alice is survived by son, George Ross and wife, Ann; daughters, Kay Cunningham, Vicki Averitte and husband, Clint, and Phyllis Brown; grandchildren, Gerald and Resa Cunningham, Chris Cunningham, Barry and Robin Ross, Kim and Kevin Boisen, April and Aaron Huff, and Nikole and Scott Witt; and 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
