Biography

Jean Sanders was born on 27 Dec 1827 in Kinross, Kinross-shire, Scotland, daughter of Charles Sanders and Jean Robertson.[1]

In the 1841 census Jean (age 12) was in White Mire Place, Dunfermline, Fife.[2] She lived with her parents, Charles and Jean, and her siblings Charles and Joan.

At the age of 19, Jean married Archibald Ewen on 2 January 1847 in Dunfermline, Fife.[3] Their children were:

  1. Jane (Ewen) Wilson (~1850 - 1896)
  2. Charles Ewen (~1851 - 1857)
  3. Archibald Ewen (~1853 - 1856)
  4. John Ewen (1856 - 1859)

In the 1851 census Jean (age 23) was the wife of Archibald Ewan on High St, Dunfermline, Fife.[4]

She was predeceased by her husband Archibald in 1860.

In the 1861 census Jean (age 31) was the widowed daughter of Charles Sanders in Lassodie Village, Beath, Fife.[5][6] She lived with her parents and her daughter Jean Ewing (age 13).

At the age of 34, Jane married James Watson, son of Hugh Watson and Christian Kidd, on 30 January 1862 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire.[7][8] Their children were:

  1. Joan (Watson) McAndrew (1862 - 1948)
  2. Hugh Watson (1863 - 1937)
  3. Christian Kidd Watson (1866 - )

In the 1871 census Jane (age 39) was the wife of James Watson in Meadow Bank, Dunfermline Landward, Fife.[9] They had three children: Johan [Joan] (10), Hugh (7), and Christina (4).

In the 1881 census Jane (age 48) was the wife of James Watson in Roscobie Limeworks, Dunfermline, Fife.[10] They lived with their son Hugh (18).

In the 1891 census Jane (age 67) was the wife of James Watson in Lathalmond, Dunfermline, Fife.[11] They lived with their grandson, James Watson (7).

In the 1901 census Jane (age 70) was the wife of James Watson in Gask Feno, Dunfermline, Fife.[12] They lived with their grandson James (17).

Jean died from bronchitis on 17 Jan 1903 in Dunfermline aged 75.[13] The informant was her son, Hugh Watson.
