He initially traveled to the Salt Lake Valley with his mother and siblings in 1850 with the Warren Foote Company, Amanda Armstrong Faucett Sanders (Age: 40), Martha Brown Sanders (Age: 17), Joseph Moroni Sanders (Age: 13) and Emma Sanders (Age: 10). Several years later, in 1863 he crossed the plains again, this time as a captain of his own out-and-back company (John F. Sanders Company).
He passed away in 1896 in the Arizona Territory, United States and is buried in the City of Mesa Cemetery, Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona, United States.
