Mary Sanders was born 11 Mar 1888 in Beath, Scotland. She was the daughter of John (McPherson) Sanders and Betsy Kennedy.^[1]

In the 1891 census Mary (age 3) was the granddaughter of Duncan Kennedy in Gask Toll House, Beath, Fife.^[2]

In the 1901 census Mary (age 13), Scholar, was the daughter of Elizabeth Sanders in Castleblair, Dunfermline, Fife.^[3]
