I am active with the Sanders/Saunders Y-DNA project at Family Tree DNA. I am a descendant of Lewis Sanders through his son, Francis, and his son, Isaac. The theory that Lewis was the son of Edward Saunders III excited me so I tracked down a documented descendant of Edward Saunders, b. 1595 and d. 1639, so that we could test the theory. I found a gentleman named Edward Saunders who has an iron clad paper trail through Dr. Edward Saunders II (1625-1672) and his son, Ebeneezer (1661-1693). He was happy to take the test.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Lewis is not related to the Edward Saunders line. Lewis is related to the Sanders in group 17 of our surname project while Edward is related to group 39. In fact, it turns out that we also have a descendant of Jesse Saunders (1743-1809) and Ann Yancy. Jesse's father was William (1718-1789), son of Edward (1686-1744), son of Ebeneezer (1661-1693). https://www.familytreedna.com/public/SandersDNA?iframe=yresults
