Mrs. W. H Sands to Inherit Millions
Major William H. Sands has just rturned[sic] to the city after an absence of some days in the West looking into a settlement of the estate of Elizabeth Bradford, a direct descendant of Governor Bradford, who married Captain Charles Whiting, Jr. Mary Whiting, a daughter of Captain Whiting, married Samuel Willis, the great-great-grandfather of Mrs. Sands and her sister, Miss Mary Willis Dold.
This estate has been in litigation a number of years, and now amounts to about $107,000,000. Under the settlement, it is exceedingly interesting to state, one-half will come to the American heirs. lt is understood that this settlement is brought about in a compromise recently effected.
Major Sands, in company with a representative from the other branch of the family, will shortly leave for England to finally close the matter.
It is understood that one-fifth of this estate will go to Mrs. Sands and her sister, and to Mrs. Thomas Dorwin, of Norfolk Va., the only Virginia heirs.
Charles Whiting referred to above bore the commission of captain in the Old French War and took part in the conquest the Canadas in 1761.
