Ephraim was born in 1813 in Buxton, Maine.[1] He was the son of Ephraim Sands and Abigail Ayer. He passed away in 1900.
He traveled from Maine to Jordan, New York with his family in 1817. He is found in the 1820 census for his father in the town of Camillus, New York.[2]
He married Susan Rogers, most likely around 1834 in Onondaga County, New York. In the 1840 census for the town of Elbridge in Onondaga County, New York his family included a male and female ages 20 through 29 and three females under age 5 (daughters Abigail, Elizabeth, and Agnes).[3]
On 9 Nov 1837 Daniel Sands and his wife Eunice sold 25 acres in the northeast corner of lot 59 in the town of Camillus to his brother Ephraim Sands, Jr of Ira in Cayuga County for $1000. The land was owned by Henry Barr in 1830.[4]
Also on 9 Nov 1837 Daniel Sands and his wife Eunice sold 66 acres in lot 47 in Elbridge to his brother Ephraim Sands, Jr of Ira in Cayuga County for $1800.[5] The land was bounded on the south by lot 47 south line, bounded on the east by states hundred acres owned by estate of Calvin Corey bounded on the north by the Erie Canal, and bounded on the west by 10 acres formerly owned by Peter Sands. This was the land sold to Daniel by his father Ephraim on 1 Oct 1834.
On 16 February 1839 Ephraim Sands Jr and his wife Susan sold 50 acres on lot 59 in Elbridge to Elizabeth Rogers for $150.[6] The land was described as bounded on the east by land owned by David Munro, bounded north and south by land owned by Mrs. Cramer, and west by the highway leading from Elbridge village to the farm late of Calvin Corey.
On 1 April 1839 Ephraim Sands Jr and his wife Susan sold 90 acres on lots 47 and 59 in Elbridge to Calvin Baker for $3000.[7] On 29 Oct 1840 Calvin Baker sold this land to Ephraim's brother Peter. Twenty five acres in lot 59 beginning 66 rods from the north west corner of the lot was owned by Henry Barr in 1830 and purchased by Peter's brother Daniel in 1831, sold by Daniel to their brother Ephraim in 1837. Sixty six acres in lot 47 was bounded on the south by the south line of lot 47 on the east by States Hundred owned by heirs of Calvin Corey on the north by the Erie Canal and on the west by 10 acres formerly owned by Peter. The land on lot 47 was sold by his father Ephraim to his brother Daniel in Oct 1834, and Daniel sold this to their brother Ephraim in 1837.
On 11 April 1839 Benjamin Coonley and Emily his wife of Jordan sold 172 acres on lot 33 in Elbridge to Peter Sands and Ephraim Sands Junior of Elbridge for $6020.[8] This land was described as beginning at the northeast corner of the States Hundred on lot 33 then west forty chains to the west line of lot 33 then north along the west line far enough so that a line running parallel with the south line and extending to the east line of lot 33 containing 207 acres to the place of beginning excepting and reserving 15 acres of the southeast corner and 20 acres in the southwest corner.
On 1 Mar 1840 Ephraim Sands Jr purchased 72 acres in lot 32 in Elbridge from Calvin Huntington and Mary his wife, Levi Huntington and Mary his wife and Luther Huntington for $2880.[9] The land was described as in lot 32 beginning twenty chains west of the southwest corner of Thomas Stevens land then south twenty eight chains then west twenty five chains to the west line of lot 33 then north on the line between lots 30 and 32 to Cross Lake then along the shore of the lake to Dennis Watkins' land on lot 32 then east on the south line of Watkins to the place of beginning.

[10] The land was described as follows beginning twenty chains west of the southeast corner of Thomas Stevens land then south twenty eight chains then west twenty five chains to the west line of the lot then north on the line between lots 31 and 32 to Cross Lake then northeast along the lake shore to Dennis Watkins land on lot 32 then east on Watkins' south line to the place of beginning.
By 1850, the family had moved to Mount Pleasant township, Racine, Wisconsin where Ephraim's brothers Timothy, Zachariah and Samuel were living. Family members included Ephraim 38, Susan 41, Abigail 14, Ann E 12, Agnes 10, Sarah 2, and William, an infant.[11]
He was living in Reedsburg, Sauk, Wisconsin in 1855.[12] The family moved to Woodland, Sauk, Wisconsin by 1860 and included Ephraim 49, Susan 50, Sarah 12, and William 10.[13]
In 1870 Ephraim, Susan and son William were living in Douglas, Clay, Iowa. Their daughter Agnes had married JJ Duroe, and was also living in Clay.[14]
After wife Susan died in February of 1873, Ephraim married Mrs. Fidelia Weed 4 Jun 1873 in Clay County, Iowa.[15]
Ephraim and Fidelia were living in Sioux Rapids, Iowa in 1880.[16]
He married Celia C Knapp, the widow of Elisha Sprague, on 3 February 1887.[17]
When the 1900 census was enumerated 22 June 1900, Ephraim was living with his daughter Elizabeth and her husband John Tabor in Analy, Sonoma, California.[18]
He died 27 Jun 1900, presumably in California.[19]
