Charles Tyldesley Rhodes Sands was born in 1832 in Nassau, Bahamas to William Sands and Mary Knowles. He was christened 30 August 1832 at Christ Church, Nassau by the Reverend William Hepworth, Rector.
Charles TR Sands married twice; first, in 1855, to Margaret Cameron Rattray, and second, about 1889 - 1890, Mary Rokas Lawder of Baltimore, Maryland.
The Bahama Herald noted Mr. Sands' first marriage as follows: "Married, at Rock Sound, on the 12th instant, by the Rev. Thomas Lofthouse, W.M., Mr Charles Tidley Sands, to Margaret Cameron, third daughter of James S Rattray, Esq." The couple had children - among them John C, Mary Eliza, Harriet Edwin, William Robert Bell, Margaret Cameron, James, Edith Alice, Albert Victor Darling, and Mabel Gray Sands.
Charles TR Sands and Mary R Sands had two daughters: Nellie Rokas Sands and Tyldesley L Sands.
He also had a daughter, born 1882, with Mrs. Eva Bethel, wife of Thomas G N Bethel, at Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera.
Mr. Sands was an elder of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Nassau, and his name appeared in an 1875 Act to regulate management and maintenance of "The Kirk." He was also a Member of Parliament and his name appeared in the annual Colonial Office Lists.
Charles TR was a grower/shipper/merchant of fruit, especially pineapples, and owned a factory on Eleuthera to preserve it. (The tin cans and wooden cases used by these plants were manufactured in Baltimore.) His ships carried fruit to eastern cities of the US.
Charles Tyldesley Rhodes Sands passed away in 1905 in Baltimore, Maryland at 72 years of age.
