Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Charles Sands was my 5th cousin. He was related to me through both my grandmother's mother Margaret Sands Cates and my grandfather's mother Ellen Roberts Lowe.
In the photo, you see the typical large (carpenter's) hands of many men in the family, with relatively narrow wrists. I can never find gloves that fit me.
This may be the same Charles Sands who my father's 2nd cousin Clerihew (Clary) Lowe worked with near Miami. Clary's daughter Joy Lowe Jossi may have more information about this Charles Sands. I hope Joy was able to get to Palm Beach County FL after Hurricane Dorian. Her brother is in a nursing home there.
Thanks to Kay Sands for finding this photo. Kay is not related to me, but she's a skilled genealogist who is also a software engineer like me.
Note: Kay writes that she did not upload the photo. It was uploaded by Priscilla Weatherford, the profile manager for Charles Sands. I never met Priscilla. Is she related to my 5th cousin Rev. Randy Weatherford of Man O War Cay? I send all the best wishes to my cousins who suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Dorian. I think many of my other cousins may be helping them. My 5th cousin Peter J. Roberts of Atlanta, Georgia is the head of the Bahamas Project. Many of my favorite cousins that I know well are related to me through both the Lowes and Sands, including Keith Sands Lowe and Laurie Lowe Forbes. My 4th cousin Brent Bethel is a procurement specialist at the container port in Freeport. I'm Episcopalian because of my maternal grandfather and paternal grandmother, but many of the cousins are Methodist or Baptist. Best wishes to all my cousins. We are made of tough stuff in this family. The Lord never sends anything our way that we cannot handle.
