Biography

Ann Sanford, daughter of Zechariah Sanford (son of Ezekiel) was b. 6 Feb 1739/40 (recorded at Fairfield.) She was called Ann, wife of James Crofoot, in her father's 1783 will and died by 1802.[1]

Ann Sanford married (1) about 1763 Ephraim Seeley,[1] as his second wife. He died 1763.[2] His estate was distributed 1772 to wife Ann, eldest daughter Kezia (by his first wife), and youngest daughter Abigail.[2]

The widow Ann Seeley owned the covenant at Easton Church 8 Mar 1764.[2]

Ann Seeley married (2) at Easton 20 June 1765, Stephen Bennett, son of James[1][3] Stephen died in 1773. The distribution of his estate went to wife Ann, children Stephen and Seeley.[3]

Ann Bennett married (3) James Crofut.[1]

Ann Crofutt died by 1802.[1]

Her real estate inventory was completed on 12 March 1802.[4]

Distribution of her estate at Weston 14 Aug. 1802, was made to dau. Abigail wife of Samuel Crofut; eldest son Seeley Bennett; son Stephen Bennett; daus. Rachel, Ann and Olive Crofut.[3]

Ann and Ephraim Seeley had:

  • Abigail Seeley, baptized at Easton 18 Mar 1764; m. recorded at Danbury Samuel Crofut 2 Aug 1781 as his second wife.[2]

Ann and Stephen Bennett had;

  • Seeley Bennett[3]
  • Olive Bennett bpt at Huntington Episcopal Church 18 Mar 1771; died young[3]
  • Stephen Bennett, bpt 15 Dec 1772 at Huntington[3]

Ann and James Crofut had:

  • Rachel Crofut[3]
  • Ann Crofut[3]
  • Olive Crofut [3]

Jacobus tells us that Ann Sanford married James Crofut as her third husband, there is no doubt about that. Jacobus never identifies James' parents or birth. James, son of Josiah and Sarah Crofut, fits (as far as can be told), but having the same name and approximated birth does not create proof of a relationship. The Ancestry trees, the IGI contributed indexes, the Pedigree Resource files do not make this leap. James Crofut, son of Josiah and Sarah is being disconnected.
