Notes

In researching Baynham SHAW, possibly, Bonham SHAW, I found the will of Thomas SHAW, Jr with wife, Ann LNU.

Thomas Shaw's will written 29 May 1777, proven Aug 1777, Fairfax Co., VA Legatees: Jenny and Catherine Dalton Jenny Dalton my Grand daughter - Land bought Capt. John Minor known as Cameron (Belhaven Plantation, Cameron Run, Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia); given to my grand daughter and her heirs and if no heirs return to John Bridges and Baynham Shaw. Catherine my grand daughter - Land near the Falls Church bought with Col. John Carlyle and her heirs; and if no heirs return to John Bridges and Baynham Shaw. Jemima Minor 15 pounds Executors: George Minor, Richard Sanford Senior, Jenny Dalton Witness: John Moss, Robert Muir, George Minor Geo. Minor --signed 2 Aug 1780

I discovered that John Minor was married to Jemima Sanford. She is the daughter of Robert Sanford. Was there a relationship between Thomas SHAW and John Minor? I theorized that maybe Thomas Shaw's wife, Ann, was a SANFORD.

Robert Sanford did name a daughter Ann in his will. Then I found the will of Robert SANFORD's son, Joseph Sanford written 3 April 1741 and entered for probate on 26 April 1741 in Westmoreland County, Virginia:

Wife Mary Dau. Nanny Son Robert to have estate when 20 years of age Dau. Betty Presley Neale to have the care of son Robert and dau. Nanny Thomas Shaw to have the care of dau. Betty Bro. John Sanfordneal Son Robert to be bound to Thomas Sanford, Jr., bricklayer, when 14 until he is 21 years of age estate to be sold and money to children

Finding Thomas SHAW in Joseph SANDFORD's will lends further credence that Thomas SHAW may have married Ann SANFORD. Is there an estate settlement?

1706/07 Westmoreland Co., VA, Joseph Bayley and his wife Ann, and Thomas Shaw and his wife Jane are selling land, part of a patent formerly granted to Alexander Baynham. This Thomas Shaw Sr is the father of Thomas Shaw Jr.

Anne Baynham, dau. of Alexander Baynham and Ann Baldridge, married

  1. John Butler, son of Thomas Butler II, He died in 1677
  2. Alexander Webster, who died in 1703. ( Will dated 2 May 1688, proved 26 May 1703) Left entire estate to wife, Ann. (Fothergill, p.35)
  3. Joseph Bayley, who died in 1717/18.(Fothergill, p. 64)

Anne herself died as Anne Bayley in 1732. (Fothergill, p.95) Will proven 5 Oct 1732 Westmoreland Co., VA. See her profile for the will.

Is Baynham SHAW the son of Ann (Sanford) SHAW and Thomas SHAW?
