Biography

CPL Frederick Sanno BIRTH unknown, but based upon age at enlistment (32) in 1841, DOB is estimated at about 1809. Served as a corporal in Co. K, 55th Pennsylvania Infantry. Frederick Sanno was a weaver by trade, when he enlisted on 20 FEB 1841.

He is buried at the Beaufort National Cemetery Beaufort, Beaufort County, South Carolina, USA, PLOT 24-2159

Fred fought in the Mexican War and in the Civil War, with Company K, 55th PA Infantry. His widow applied for a pension on February 25, 1887 and again in 1889, when she received support.

Note: The Mexican–American War, also known as the Mexican War in the United States and in Mexico as the American intervention in Mexico, was an armed conflict between the United States of America and the United Mexican States from 1846 to 1848. Wikipedia

Fred is listed as father on the birth certificate of his son, Charles W Sanno Sr.

Research Notes

In the census of 1840, a Frederick Sanno who is at least 30 but not yet 40, is shown living next door to George Michael Sanno.

Could this be a son of Michael Sanno's who is not mentioned in Michael Sanno's will, because he had died before the will was made? (G.M. Sanno's will was made in Nov 1863, while Frederick died in March 1863, a casualty of the Civil War, in Beaufort, SC. )

The problem with this hypothesis is that Frederick's widow, Elizabeth Gallacker and Frederick's two sons, John and Charles William, were alive then, and none of the three was mentioned in the will. With Frederick being a military man, one would think that George Michael would have cherished his memory and included his family.

Frederick De Sanno(George Michael's brother) cannot be the father. Frederick had two sons with the name: John Frederick (too old and married, not to any Elizabeth), and Frederick H., who died in 1847.

This could explain why he was not mentioned in George Michael Sanno's will. He died before his father wrote his will (in November 1863)
