Biography

Albert Sergeant was born in Lincoln in 1884, [1] son of Private John Sargent of the Lincolnshire Regiment and his Canadian wife, Annie Etheridge. He was probably born in the barracks where the family was living in 1891. [2] By 1901 he was in the army, stationed at the Cavalry Barracks in Manchester. [3]

On the 31st of July 1909 at St Peter, Bradford in Yorkshire he married widow, Ethel Maud Elizabeth Coppin, daughter of James Fryer and his wife, Sarah Jane Hobson, and widow of drummer John Coppin of the Lincolnshire Regiment. [4]

In 1911 he was serving at Fort Gomer in Gosport with the rank of Lance Sergeant. [5]Ethel and their two daughters were living in two rooms in Southsea, across the harbour in Portsmouth. He was also added to the Census there but his name was crossed out. [6]

Albert died in 1954, his death being registered at Edmonton in Middlesex. [7]
