Hey Darrel,

You've been here for three weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know us a little better.

You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions!

Thanks, Cindy

Greetings Darrel,

Starting with a gedcom is a rough way to learn WikiTree in my opinion. Hopefully you read Before Importing. Your questions are likely all answered at WikiTree GEDCOM Help Index. How far have you gotten with the "Start Climbing" section #1 of the instruction manual? Sources are lightly talked about in section #2 and further elaborated in section #4. Sources should tell you whether you need to skip a person in your GEDmatch or not. Any duplicates created will need to be merged if you do not skip importing them. Merges are covered in section #5 on the tour. I'll be happy to help as soon as we narrow down what you are having questions about.

Cheers!

David

I'm so glad you volunteered!

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members.

As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow or soon after, a Mentor who will check in with you to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

Join in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum: If you could pick a different time period to live in, what would it be?

See you in the branches!

Hi Darrel,

A warm welcome to WikiTree, a genealogy site different than any other! You should have received an email from us with helpful links to get started.

Our goal is to have one single profile per person so that we have ONE big family tree and we collaborate together to make that happen.

Each volunteer at WikiTree adds to the collaborative tree at their own pace, there are no minimum requirements for time or entry.

When you volunteer, you indicate your interests by adding tags and comments and then one of our Greeters will confirm your membership.

Please check out our question of the week If you could pick a different time period to live in, what would it be?

Welcome to the family!

Laura, WikiGreeter
