Biography

Between coming from a family of nerds and working for a library, I suppose it was only a matter of time before I got into the genealogy rabbit hole.

Hi Taylor, speaking of the genealogy rabbit hole, here are a couple of twists you may be interested in. We obviously share our Hibbs ancestry, and if you check out my Worrall-Hibbs line (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hibbs-683#Ancestors), you will see a Wood-Worrall branch that goes back to Matthew Wood b. 1696. I'm convinced through genetic matches and geographical and Quaker connections that Matthew's mother was in the Pharo-Ridgway cluster of families (also including Birdsall, Willets, Cranmer, et al.) that you also descend from. So that would make us double cousins, and it would be interesting to check our DNA match (my GEDmatch kit is AN2812146). Also, I recently acquired a 1775 copy of the great Quaker John Woolman's works, which was previously owned (and is inscribed with a date of 1783) by Thomas Ballengee and then Thomas' son Aaron. Thomas is the brother of your ancestor Phoebe Ballengee (or Ballinger), and they're listed as siblings at https://sites.rootsweb.com/~rootsr/B-NJ.HTM. So, I have one of your family artifacts...I'm not descended from the Ballengees (I think), but I may be descended from a Ridgway. I hope you find this of interest, Cheers!

This is very cool info! I also noticed on your tree that you have Marmon ancestors. I went to a Quaker college where there were some buildings named after prominent Quakers, including a Marmon House.

That's very cool, too! My Marmon ancestors moved from North Carolina to Logan County, Ohio, to Cass County, Michigan, to near Des Moines, Iowa by the 1850s. These Marmon-Hibbs descendants stayed in Colfax, Iowa long enough for me to visit them from California in the 1980s.

If this was Earlham College in Indiana, I think the Marmons who moved there had previously been among my group of Marmons from Logan County, Ohio. One more thing to add is that I recently found another strong genetic connection, apparently of my Wood ancestors, to the New Jersey Quaker surname Shreve, which seems related to the Pharo-Ridgway cluster (please let me know if you take up GEDmatch matching, because I have several strong matching kit numbers that would be interesting to cross-check), and also to your Satterthwaite family. You can see this illustrated in some mid-1800s wedding attendances at https://archive.org/details/genealogyhistory00alle/page/602/mode/2up?q=Satterthwaite+. This is the kind of genetic and historical detective work aspect of doing genealogy I especially enjoy. That's all for now, cheers!
