Biography

Solomon Satterwhite b. 1820 m. 6 Dec 1841, Mary Jane Land b. 1821 in 1850 census. Solomon's cousin, Stephen Satterwhite, is listed in the marriage record. Solomon in 1860 Goldsboro, Wayne Co. N. C. census, age 35 census error, married to Amanda J. age 24. Solomon m. 21 Dec 1856 in Granville Co., NC., Amanda J. Walker, the marriage date proves that she was a step-mother. In 1870 census Amanda is not with Solomon. Spencer Satterwhite age 19, Elizabeth Satterwhite age 17, and a black cook named Harriet Satterwhite age 21, are with him. Notice that Harriet has the Satterwhite name and stayed with Solomon even though slaves had been emancipated in 1865.

A physician named George W. Landis, age 26, also lived with Solomon.
