CIMARRON -- Roy E. Sauer, 98, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron.
He was born July 16, 1901, at Manchester, Okla., the son of Henry and Lollie (Kelling) Sauer. He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1928.
A Cimarron resident since 1944, moving from Sylvia, he was a public school teacher in Reno County for seven years, and was also a farmer and stockman.
Mr. Sauer was an active member of Cimarron Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday School and was a past church board member.
On Dec. 28, 1927, he married Carrie Marie Snowbarger at Sylvia. She died in March 1945. On Nov. 27, 1949, he married Mertie G. Morris at Cimarron. She died July 15, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray A. Sauer; a sister, Effie Kruse; and a grandson.
He is survived by a son, Dwight, Sterling; four daughters, Willodene Marrs, San Jacinto, Calif., Verda Roe, Pueblo, Colo., Grace Conant, Cimarron, and Edith Dickson, Smith Center; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cimarron Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Jim C. Bond, Norman Howerton and Bernie Dickson officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Peace Creek Cemetery in rural Stafford County.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Burkhart's Gray County Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Memorials are suggested to the church or The Shepherd's Center, both in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
