He and his first wife Barbara arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship "Hope" on August 28, 1733. He lived first in Germantown, Philadelphia, PA, where he started the first print shop in Pennsylvania with his brother-in-law Christopher Sauer [Sower].
He later bought land and settled near Parker Ford, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
