Biography

Abigail was born 13 January 1723, the daughter of Henry Saunders and Mary Mitchell Saunders of Haverhill, Massachusetts[1]

  • Brown stated that she was the daughter of Edward Saunders (and Elizabeth Gage, of Scituate),[2] however the consensus in other historical sources is that she was the daughter of Henry and Mary (Mitchell) Saunders of Haverhill.

In January 1754, she married Joseph Pitman, the son of Abiel Pitman and Abigail Hooper of Marblehead[3] Tax records show they lived in Salem and then Beverly. In 1762, the family emigrated to Nova Scotia, and were among the first settlers of Yarmouth Township [4]

They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 6 daughters.

Their children included:

Saunders-4097 and Saunders-1468 are not ready to be merged because: The fathers look too different. The two were born in different towns. This is probably the same person, but her history is unclear.
Saunders-4097 and Saunders-1468 appear to represent the same person because: duplicate spouses
