Biography
Elizabeth was born in 1871.
She married William George Drew Hillary on 16 July 1895 at South Coast Junction, Durban, Colony of Natal, after Banns[1]. H. S. Hillary, R. L Ratcliff, J. W. Ricards and P. Lennox were the witnesses.
They had one daughter; Elsie Elizabeth Hillary.
They lived at 68 River Road, Bellair, Durban. Her husband was a Fruit Farmer.
Her daughter Elsie married Alexander Robert Bauer on 19 July 1932. Sadly she died soon after childbirth on 8 December 1933.
Her husband William passed away on 5 February 1935 at the age of 72.
64 year old Elizabeth travelled from Durban to England on the ship Dunnottar Castle with her granddaughter Beth Bauer (aged 3), arriving into Southampton on 5 April 1937. Their intended address in England was 49 Victoria Drive, Eastbourne, Sussex.
In the 1939 England and Wales Register Elizabeth Hillary (aged 68 and widowed) was living at 2 Myrtle Cottages, Long Garden Walk, Farnham, Surrey. Also in the household was her granddaughter Beth Hillary/Bauer (aged 5, born 23 Oct 1933).
Occupation: Unpaid Domestic Duties
She passed away in 1949 at the age of about 77[2].
