Biography

Benjamin James "Ben" Saunders was born in 1879 in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco, Bahamas to Jimmy Saunders and Lyddie Sweeting.

Ben Saunders married twice: first, 25 March 1900, in Green Turtle Cay, to Mabel Lenora "Mae" Lowe, daughter of Jabez Austin Lowe; and second, about 1920, to Olive Minerva Sawyer, daughter of Samuel Horace Sawyer and Minerva Beatrice Lowe Sawyer.

Ben and Mae Saunders had a son, Everett Benjamin (William Everett) Saunders, born 4 July 1900 at Green Turtle Cay. Olive Minerva and Ben Saunders had children Libby Melvina, Hilda Elizabeth, Thalia Minerva, Benjamin James, and Robert Irvin/Irwin Saunders. [Another daughter born 1933?]

Benjamin James Saunders, farmer, died 11 September 1953 in Green Turtle Cay at 73 years of age. He is buried there in the cemetery at New Plymouth.
