Emily was born in 1841 in England. She was the daughter of Thomas Saunders and Ann Roberts [1]
Her family came to the United States, first settling in New York. [2]
They came to Winnebago County about 1856.
She married John Garrett in 1858 in Guilford, Illinois. [3]
They farmed in Guilford. [4]
In 1920 she lived in Cherry Valley. [5]
Emily passed away in 1922. [6]
Mrs. Garret Dies at Cherry Valley
Mrs. Emily Garrett, widow of John Garrett, died at 10:20 o'clock Friday night at her home here following an extended illness.
She was born in Kent County, England, Sept. 28, 1840, and came to America in 1841. She had resided in Cherry Valley for fourteen years. She was married to John Garrett on July 3, 1858.
Five children were born to them. Mrs. Maurice Reid is the only surviving child. Mrs. Garrettt leaves one brother, Aaron Sanders, of Rockford.
Mrs. Garrett was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Cherry Valley Cemetery.[7]
