He trained for the Ministry at Moorfields Academy (?-1744) and was funded by the Congregational Fund Board. He received a degree from Aberdeen Marischal, DD (Hon.) (1767) [2]

He believed himself to be the lineal descendant and heir of John Savage, second Earl Rivers (d. 1654), but did not pursue the claim. His grandfather, John Savage, was pastor of the Seventh Day Baptist Church, Mill Yard, Goodman's Fields. Another relation on his father's side was Hugh Boulter, archbishop of Armagh' [ODNB] Nephew of Toulmin, apothecary in Old Gravel Lane, Wapping.

Samuel married Mary Houlme on 14 February 1752 in All Hallows London Wall, City of London, London, England.[3]

He was the Assistant Minister to Samuel Price at Bury Street, St Mary Axe, London and then he became sole pastor there, 1756-87.

In 1766 he delivered the charge, at the Ordination of the Rev. Mr. Samuel Wilton, at Tooting, in Surrey [4] Rev. Samuel Wilton died in 1778 and Samuel Morton Savage preached at his Interment in Bunhill-fields, April 10, 1778. [5]

He taught at David Jennings's Academy, Wellclose Square and was

  • Assistant tutor From c.1744 to c.1747
  • Tutor c.1747 to c.1762. He taught: classics, mathematics, science, natural philosophy

He taught at Hoxton Academy from c.1762 to c.1784 as the principal, teaching divinity [6]

Samuel married Hannah Wilkin on 14 August 1770 in Tonbridge, Kent, England.[7]

Samuel married Mary Houlme on 14 May 1752 in All hallows London Wall, London, London, England.[8]

Samuel was listed in the Orphan Working School, Hoxton's "Plan" published in1769, and was shown as Savage Rev., Dr, Contributor on page 32.

Samuel was listed as a supporter of the Society for Promoting Religious Knowledge among the poor in both the 1763 and the 1779 reports which the charity published. The report recorded him as Rev Samuel Morton Savage and that he had been a supporter since 1761. The 1779 report on page 33 gives his address as Hoxton Town.[9].

Samuel died in 1791 and was buried on 3 March 1791[10] He was buried at Bunhill Fields a nonconformist burial ground. The burial register stated he was 70 years of age from Hoxton [11]

His funeral sermon was preached by Rev. William Bennet (abt.1750-) and the address at the grave was given by Thomas Towle (abt.1724-1806) [12]

Samuel's will passed probate on 12 March 1791.[13]
