Dorothy Savile (bef. 1550)

Married "John Kaye of Oakenshaw", eventually. So we're told.

No legitimate children.

Said to have had 7 illegitimate children before she married Kaye. Foster reckons they were all his.

Rev Hunter was not amused.

The rightful heiress to both parents, but apparently her brother Edward allowed her fortune to be stolen from under her nose by the Talbot gang.

Early pedigrees say she married John Kaye of Woodsome. Maybe this should be investigated. Foster says "of Woodsome and Oakenshaw". Clay settles for Oakenshaw.

There was no established family of Kayes of Oakenshaw. Only one "John Kaye of Oakenshaw" seems to be known. That description is commonly given (for unknown reasons) to a John Kaye of the Dalton branch, who bought land at Heath in two moieties, from two moieties of the Bradford family, and built Heath Hall, ca. 1562.

But he had children with another wife. Nothing seems to identify him as the same John who married Dorothy Savile.
