Biography

George, son of George Savits and Roseanna, was born 1755 and died 1830.[1]

John Phifer died before 1778 and his widow (Catherine, daughter of John Paul Barringer) became the wife of George Savitz Jr., commonly called “Savage.”
George Savitz Jr. and Catherine, his wife, had two daughters, named Mary and Catherine.
Mary Savitz, daughter of George and Catherine, was first married to Charles McKenzie (afterwards she was the wife of Richard Harris, still living). Three children were born to this couple—the late Montford S. McKenzie, Esq.; Maria McKenzie who became the second wife of Abel Cowan; and Margaret McKenzie, the wife of the late John McRorie, of Salisbury.
Catherine Savitz, the other daughter of George Savitz Jr., married Noah Partee, Esq.

On 12 December 1805 George Savitz was granted 43 acres on a ridge joining his own lines (S. fork of Grant's Creek) in Rowan, North Carolina, United States.[2]

On the 1800 census, George Savitz is in Salisbury, Rowan, North Carolina. Number of Household Members = 18, Number of Slaves = 13. [3]

On the 1810 Census, George Sevitz is in Rowan County with a household of eighteen people - including ten enslaved. [4]

The 1820 census lists "George Savage" at Battalion 1 or Salisbury Side, Rowan, North Carolina. Total Persons = 13, Total Slaves = 11. [5]

George (age 74) was buried on 23 October 1830 in China Grove, Rowan, North Carolina, United States.[6]
