Isabella, Principessa di Savoia, was born at Torino 11 March 1591, the second daughter and fifth child of Carlo Emanuele I, 11th Duca di Savoia, and his first wife, Caterina Michaela, Infanta di Espana.[1]

She married 22 February 1608 at Torino, Alfonso d'Este, Principe ereditario di Modena e Reggio, the eldest surviving son of Cesare d' Este, Duca di Modena e Reggio, and his wife Virginia de' Medici, Principessa di Toscana. He was born at Ferrara 22 October 1591

They had fourteen children;

  1. Cesare, born 1609, died young in 1613;
  2. Francesco I, born 6 September 1610 at Modena, succeeded on the abdication of his father as Duca di Modena e Reggio;
  3. Obizzo, born 1611, entered the church and was Proposto di Santa Maria della Pomposa 1624, Arciprete di Bondena 1624 and Bishop of Modena 1640, died at Modena 24 August 1645;
  4. Caterina, born 2 February 1613, a nun in Madrid, died there 1635;
  5. Cesare, born 1614, a Captain in the army of the King of France 1648, and Commander of the army of the Duke of Modena, died there 20 September 1677;
  6. Alessandro, born and died 1615;
  7. Carlo Alessandro, born 1616, an imbecile, died 1677;
  8. Rinaldo, born
  9. Margherita, born 1619, married 25 June 1647, Ferrante III Gonzaga, Duca di Guastalla, and died 12 November 1692 at Mantova;
  10. Beatrice, born and died 1620;
  11. Beatrice, born 1622, died young 1623;
  12. Filiberto, born 1623, died 1645;
  13. Bonifazio, born and died 1624;
  14. Anna Beatrice, born 1626, married 29 April 1656 at Modena, Alessandro II PIco, Duca della Mirandola e Marchese della Concordia, and died at Mirandola 25 September 1690.

She died at Modena 22 August 1626, perhaps of the effects of childbirth. Her husband succeeded his father as Duca di Modena e Reggio 1628, but abdicated in favour of their eldest surviving son on 1629. He became a monk and died 24 May 1644 at Castelnuovo di Garfagnana.[2]
