Marie Theresa Savoie lived in Louisiana.

Marie Therese, dite Tharzile Savoie, daughter of Joseph Savoie and Anne Cormier, was born on 15 October 1800. She was baptized 14 October 1801 by Father Michel Bernard Barriere of the St. Martin of Tours church in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana.[1]

She married Antoine Ritter, widower of Marie Magdelaine Leger and son of Michel Ritter and Marie Louise Stelly, on 31 October 1821. Father Hercule Brassac of the St. Charles Borromeo church at Grand Coteau, St. Landry Parish, presided.[2] They had nine known children:[3]

  1. Antoine Ritter, b. 1823
  2. child Ritter, b. 1825
  3. Uranie Ritter, b. 1826
  4. Michel Ritter, b. 1828
  5. Elmire Ritter, b. 1830 (twin)
  6. Palmire Ritter, b. 1830 (twin)
  7. Anne (Marie, Annette) Ritter, b. 1834
  8. Joseph Ritter, b. 1836
  9. Marcellite Ritter, b. 1839

In the 1830 census, her husband Antoine was the head of a family at Grand Coteau, St. Landry Parish, with seven people in his household. They owned 13 slaves, five of them children under ten years of age.[4] Although the earlier censuses did not list each family member by name, it is apparent from what we know about estimated and known ages that Tharzile was counted as a female between the ages of 30 and 39. All of their known children were present, as well as Antoine's mother.

The family could not be located on the 1840 or 1850 censuses.

Tharzile was widowed in July 1853,[5] and died a few months later on 7 January 1854. Her burial was recorded at the Grand Coteau church.[6]
