François was the son of Jean Baptiste Savy and Barbe Jeanne Denmat and was born in 1735. François died in 1791 at the age of fifty-six years old.

François had been a lieutenant in the French Navy before marrying Dorothée in Réunion. He emigrated to the Seychelles in 1785, one of four Frenchmen who joined the only settler left in the colony from the first group of settlers. By March 1787 he was living, with his wife and four children, on the north-east coast of Mahé. While some of the other settlers were enriching themselves, to the disapproval of successive government officials, François had no slaves and the land was worked by the family alone. The Commander of the colony had serious concerns about their ability to survive, but they did and the Savy family became a major part of the history of the Seychelles.[1]
