ABRAHAM SAWYER, b. at Bolton, 19 Sep 1737[1] son of Thomas Sawyer and Elizabeth Osgood; d. at Chester, VT, 8 Feb 1811;[2] m. at Petersham, 30 Apr 1761,[3] EXPERIENCE HORTON, b. 1742 daughter of Joseph and Alice (Knight) Horton;[4] Experience d. at Chester, 25 Jun 1833.
On 17 December 1760 (recorded 20 August 1761), Thomas Sawyer of Bolton conveyed to Abraham Sawyer of Narragansett Township Number 6 three pieces of land of 90 plus acres in Narragansett Township with dwelling house for payment of £100.[5]
Abraham and Experience resided in Templeton until 1775 when they relocated to Chester, Vermont. On 6 February 1775 (recorded 11 February 1785), Abraham Sawyer, yeoman of Templeton, with his wife Experience sold the farm on which he was living in Templeton, containing about 90 acres, to Joseph Newton of Southborough for payment of £566.13.4. On 20 November 1780 (recorded 8 May 1811), Abraham Sawyer then of Chester, Vermont sold to Joshua Wright of Templeton one full share in the common and undivided land in Templeton for payment of £72.[6]
In his will written 10 January 1796 (proved 21 June 1811), Abraham Sawyer of Chester bequeathed to beloved wife Experience one-quarter of the household furniture. Beloved daughter Elisabeth Heald wife of Josiah Heald receives £50 and one-quarter of the household furniture. Beloved daughter Experience Davis wife of Daniel Davis receives £50 and one-quarter of the household furniture. Beloved son Abraham Sawyer, Jr. receives all the lands in the town of Grafton and £130 to be paid to him by the executor when he arrives at age twenty-one. Beloved son Joseph receives five shillings and all the debts due the estate, the farming utensils, and the remainder of the estate of every kind. Joseph is named executor.[7]
Abraham Sawyer and Experience Horton were parents of ten children.
